Pot Holders DIY Tutorial

Pot holders help us hold hot kitchen equipment like pans, oven, or even pots.  They protect our hands from burning and are often made in thick materials to provide utmost protection.  Pot holders can also be fashionable; most of them are made in all shapes and forms.  Since it is the Heart’s Month, it is nice to make some seasonal, yet useful heart-shaped pot holders. This can also be given as a gift to your loved one this coming Valentine’s Day, if s/he loves baking or cooking. So let us look at this DIY tutorial about how to make heart pot holders now!

 

Supplies needed for making heart pot holders

  • 2 pcs. crafting felt (pink and purple)
  • crochet thread
  • big sewing needle
  • scissors

Step by step DIY tutorial to make Lovely Heart Pot Holders:

STEP 1:  Cut the pink and the purple crafting felt lengthwise.  The width of this would be based on your own liking.

STEP 2:  Curve the edges of the big strips.

STEP 3:  Fold the pink and the purple strips crosswise.  Align them properly to achieve better results.

STEP 4:  Put the pink on top of the purple felt.  This should be done in alternate ways to from a heart shape.  Cut the pink felt vertically, creating three parallel strips.  The end of the cut should be the intersecting edge of the purple felt at the bottom.

STEP 5:  Interchange the position of the felt.  The pink should be place at the bottom and the purple should be placed on top.  Do the same thing as the pink felt.  Cut the purple felt vertically parallel to each other, forming three strips.  And the cut should run until the intersecting edge of the pink felt at the bottom.

STEP 6:  The purple felt now should be placed on the left and the pink to the right.  In the succeeding steps, we will observe that the numbering of the strips will be done from left to right.  Insert the first pink strip in between the third purple strip.

STEP 7:  Insert the second purple strip in between the first pink strip.

STEP 8:  Insert the first pink strip in between the first purple strip.

STEP 9:  Continue doing this alternately until you reach the last or the third pink strip.  To lock the weaving, insert the third pink strip in between the first purple strip.

STEP 10:  Flatten the heart pot holder on the table and adjust the spaces per strip.

STEP 11:  Single thread the needle.

STEP 12:  Sew the edge of the heart using a blanket stitch.

STEP 13:  Cut a small strip of pink felt.  This will be the hook of the pot holders.

STEP 14:  Fold the pink strip lengthwise into three equal parts.

STEP 15:  Sew the strip on the middle using running stitch.

STEP 16:  Sew the hook of the pot holder on one side of the heart.

STEP 17:  Tada!  You finally have your lovely heart pot holder.
